The lineups -- but no Afro (Say it ain't so, Coco)

OAKLAND -- Even in the Bay Area, we could hear the sound of TVs switching channels.

Welcome, Celtics fans, to Red Sox-Athletics, a two-games-in-less-than-24-hours set that represents Boston's only visit here this season.

There's yet another new lineup for the Red Sox, their 14th in 16 games. This one has hot-hitting Jed Lowrie leading off, Mike Cameron in right field, and Darnell McDonald in center, as manager Terry Francona goes with his right-handed-hitting bench players against left-hander Brett Anderson.

Sitting is Jacoby Ellsbury, who is 0-for-9 lifetime against Anderson, and J.D. Drew, 0-for-3. Carl Crawford draws the start even though he hasn't had much more success against Anderson than the other lefty-hitting Sox outfielders, going 1-for-7. McDonald is 2-for-5 against Anderson, while Cameron has never faced him.

John Lackey, who has had 10 days between starts because he was skipped following last week's rainout against Tampa Bay, is facing a team that he beat regularly when he was with the Angels (17-5 lifetime, 2.90 ERA). The first batter he will face is Coco Crisp, the only current Oakland player with multiple home runs (2) against Lackey.

But in a disappointing fashion note, Crisp will not be featuring the Afro that he broke out in spectacular fashion last week against the Tigers as an accessory to the retro yellow uniforms the Athletics wore. It was back to cornrow braids Tuesday night.

Here are the lineups:
