Francona: Lowrie sick; Iglesias to start

May, 11, 2011
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Wednesday afternoon on Boston sports radio station WEEI that shortstop Jed Lowrie is sick and will miss tonight’s game, which of course means 21-year-old Jose Iglesias will get his first major league start.

"Jed's really struggling tonight, so we're going to let Iggy play shortstop," Francona said.

Francona, who also revealed he received a fine for his dustup with umpire Joe West over the weekend, said Iglesias would bat ninth. He said Carl Crawford will hit seventh.

Iglesias got his first major league at bat in the ninth inning of last night’s game. He struck out swinging but reached first safely when the ball got away from catcher J.P. Arencibia.
