In nod to B's, Sox move Sat. game to 1 p.m.

BOSTON -- The Red Sox have changed the starting time for Saturday's game against the Athletics at Fenway Park from 7:10 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. in order to allow Boston fans to watch both the Sox and the Bruins' Stanley Cup finals Game 2, which will take place at 8 p.m. that night in Vancouver.

"We want to show some courtesy to our Boston-area sports fans to both attend the game here in the afternoon and then watch the Bruins in the evening," team president Larry Lucchino said on the NESN game broadcast Tuesday in announcing the switch.

Before making the move, the team had asked fans via Facebook and Twitter whether they wanted the time switched. Lucchino said about 90 percent of respondents were in favor of the switch.

This isn't the first time the Red Sox have switched game times to accommodate a winter sports team. In both 2008 and 2010 they moved game times so they weren't playing at the same time as the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

All Fenway Park gates will open at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday with a limited opening on Yawkey Way at Gates A and D at 11:10 a.m.
