Youkilis back in after stomach flareup

June, 18, 2011
BOSTON -- The stomach ailment that KO'd Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis during Friday night's 10-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers had abated sufficiently Saturday to allow Terry Francona to put Youkilis in the lineup for Saturday night's game.

“I think we were prepared to have him show up and not be ready to play,'' Francona said, "and he kind of rallied, which is good because he was going down fast last night.”

Youkilis is batting cleanup again after delivering a two-run single in Friday night's win. He batted just .226 (7 for 31) on the team's 8-1 trip but his hits were productive, as he drove in 10 runs and scored 6. That included a three-run home run that broke a scoreless tie in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Rays.

While Youkilis' batting average is down, the on-base percentage (.380) and slugging percentage (.478) aren't too far off from his career norms (.394, .497), and his 47 RBIs put him on pace to drive in 110 this season, which would be the second-highest total of his career (115 in 2008)

Adrian Gonzalez, meanwhile, comes into Saturday's game needing one hit to reach 1,000 for his career. He leads the AL with 99 hits and has had 31 multi-hit games, also most in the league. He is hitting .415 (27 for 65) over his last 17 games, with 8 doubles, a triple, 6 home runs, 17 runs and 10 walks.

Here is the Sox lineup:

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Darnell McDonald, LF
7. Marco Scutaro, SS
8. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
9. Mike Cameron, RF
10. Jon Lester, LHP

Left-hander Randy Wolf is going for the Brewers. The Sox have won their last 11 games in which the opposition starter has been a lefty.
