Lackey set for surgery Tuesday

October, 31, 2011
BOSTON -- Red Sox pitcher John Lackey is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday, a team official said Monday. The surgery, which will be performed by orthopedist Lewis Yocum in southern California, will result in Lackey missing the 2012 season.

Meanwhile, third baseman Kevin Youkilis, who had surgery to repair a sports hernia on Oct. 4, will be "100 percent long before spring training," according to his agent, Joe Bick. The agent said the surgery went as expected, and Youkilis is embarking on a program of light cardio exercise.

Youkilis, who turns 33 in March, has had season-ending injuries in each of the last two seasons. In 2010, he underwent surgery to repair a torn adductor muscle in his thumb. He also had hip and back issues this season.
