Sox don't plan to add to list of candidates

It seems Ben Cherington may be done with his first round of interviews for the Red Sox managerial job by the end of the week.

After spending the day with Sandy Alomar Jr. on Wednesday, Cherington said he didn't plan to add anyone to his list of candidates, though he also didn't rule that out.

In addition to Alomar, the Sox already have spoken to Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin and Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum, and are scheduled to meet with Blue Jays first-base coach Torey Lovullo on Friday and Tigers third-base coach Gene Lamont on Saturday.

“I wouldn’t rule out adding another person, but there are no plans to," Cherington told reporters. "Our hope as we get into next week and the GM Meetings would be to narrow that down some, still with the goal of having somebody in place before Thanksgiving.”
