Quick hits from the Fort

March, 25, 2010
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Three quick hits at City of Palms Park:

Pedroia will be back in the lineup tomorrow. “He actually could probably play today,” manager Terry Francona said of the second baseman who is recovering a sprained left wrist (x-rays were negative). “He’s already hitting the cage and the medical staff has no problem with him going through his normal day. If there is any red flag, we wouldn’t play him tomorrow, but I don’t see that happening.”

Hanley Ramirez chatter. Plenty of talk on the former Red Sox prospect, which is topical with Ramirez in town today with the Marlins. Both Francona and Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez reflected on the trade that sent Ramirez to Florida and brought Josh Beckett to Boston. “Trade worked out well for both teams,” Francona said. “I think that’s the way trades are supposed to be.”

Mike Lowell plan. Francona said that Lowell will play third base tomorrow and is scheduled to be the team's designated hitter on Saturday. The Marlins have scouted Lowell, which has linked them to trade speculation, although it's interesting to note that Lowell isn't playing today against Florida in a game in which he could have been showcased.
