Sox COO: New spring facility fan friendly

December, 21, 2011
For Red Sox fans who visited spring training before the start of the exhibition schedule, which included many families who came to Florida on their children's winter vacation week, one of the pleasures of camp was the chance to have access to the players as they worked out at the team's minor-league training facility.

It should come as good news to them that according to Red Sox chief operating officer Sam Kennedy, the Sox have preserved similar access in their new all-at-one-site spring-training facility, which opens in February.

"We are keenly focused on continuing this tradition,'' Kennedy wrote in an e-mail Wednesday. "The new facility has six practice fields, agility fields and batting cages. Our fans will be able to wander freely around many parts of Fenway South to see players working out and seek autographs.''

Kennedy called the facility "spectacular.'' New manager Bobby Valentine toured the facility on Wednesday and also raved about it.

NBC Channel 2 in Fort Myers took a tour of the nearly completed JetBlue Park, whose dimensions will replicate Fenway's, Green Monster and all. Check out the video:
