Aviles out, Punto playing short

April, 10, 2012
TORONTO -- Tuesday night's Red Sox lineup is missing shortstop Mike Aviles, who was replaced by Nick Punto. Manager Bobby Valentine said Aviles had turned an ankle coming out of the batter's box on his second at-bat Monday night, and while Aviles said he was OK, the manager elected not to take any chances.

Punto, who made his first start in Sunday's 13-12 loss in Detroit and had three hits while batting leadoff, will bat ninth Monday.

Here are the lineups:

Red Sox:
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
David Ortiz, DH
Kevin Youkilis, 3B
Ryan Sweeney, RF
Cody Ross, LF
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
Nick Punto, SS
Daniel Bard, RHP

Blue Jays
Yunel Escobar, SS
Kelly Johnson, 2B
Jose Bautista, RF
Adam Lind, 1B
Edwin Encarnacion, DH
Brett Lawrie, 3B
Eric Thames, LF
J.P. Arencibia, C
Colby Rasmus, CF
Kyle Drabek, RHP

Jays starter Drabek was 4-5 with a 6.06 ERA last season, and has been pummeled by the Sox in two career starts (0-1, 12.00 ERA, 9 IP, 15 H, 12 ER, 5 HR, 7 B, 10 K). He wound up back in the minors after the Sox clobbered him, 14-1, last June 12, his last start for the Jays.

Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz combined to go 7-12 vs. Drabek last season, with 4 home runs, 2 doubles and 8 RBIs between them.
