Sox-Yanks Sunday night game postponed

April, 22, 2012
BOSTON -- Sunday's bad weather did what the Red Sox couldn't do all weekend: stop the New York Yankees, who won 6-2 in Friday's 100th anniversary celebration of Fenway Park, before rallying Saturday from a 9-0 deficit for a stunning 15-9 victory.

The Sox announced the decision to postpone Sunday's 8:05 game around 3:30 p.m. in the following team release:

Tonight’s Red Sox-Yankees game has been postponed due to inclement weather. According to the Red Sox professional weather service, Telvent DTN, the current forecast calls for the rain showers that are currently in the area to increase in intensity throughout the afternoon and evening hours, and remain steady into Monday afternoon. This forecast, which also includes high winds and cold temperatures, is consistent with those provided by the other local weather services. A flood watch is in effect for Boston and Suffolk County through noon on Monday, April 23.

The decision to postpone tonight’s game was made as early as possible in hopes of limiting the inconvenience to fans holding tickets to this evening’s 8:05 p.m. contest. The Washington Nationals and New York Mets have also postponed their home games for today because of the same major weather system affecting both the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions.

Tonight’s game will be rescheduled for a date to be determined as soon as possible. Tickets for tonight’s game will be good for admission to that rescheduled contest.
