Francona not concerned about umpiring crew

May, 27, 2010
BOSTON –- During his daily media scrum, Red Sox manager Terry Francona was asked about umpire Joe West and his crew working this series against Kansas City.

“I think you’d be better off asking Ozzie,” Francona said, referring to White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, who was ejected by West from Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Indians.

“Our goal is to win today, and if possible, make it through nine innings. I’d rather not lose and I’d rather not get suspended,” Francona said.

West, of course, gained notoriety for his comments last month in which he called the pace of play in Red Sox-Yankees games “pathetic” and “embarrassing.” This is his first Red Sox series since making those remarks. West is behind the plate tonight.
