Bonser to join Sox

June, 6, 2010
BALTIMORE -- Boof Bonser is on his way to Boston -- actually Cleveland.

The right-handed reliever has completed his 30-day minor-league rehab assignment and will join the Red Sox on Monday in Cleveland. He’s not activated at this point.

Boston acquired him from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for a player to be named later (pitcher Chris Province) on Dec. 10, 2009. Bonser began the season on the disabled list with a groin strain and he’s been pitching for Triple-A Pawtucket.

He tossed one scoreless inning for the PawSox Saturday night at Louisville and retired the side in order, reaching 95 mph on the radar gun.

“He threw the ball really well,” said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. “That was good to see. His [velocity] played up for the inning, which I think everyone hoped it would. You see that a lot. We saw that in the past with him, when he was out of the bullpen.”
