Ortiz sore after being hit on the hand

June, 6, 2010
BALTIMORE -- Red Sox slugger David Ortiz should stay away from Camden Yards.

In the top of the seventh inning on Sunday, he was hit on the left hand by a pitch from Orioles reliever Mark Hendrickson. Ortiz stayed in the game and said afterward that he was sore.

“Sore, but not bad,” he said. “I’ll be fine. The only problem with that is how you wake up the next day.”

It was at this very ballpark where Ortiz suffered a partially torn tendon sheath in his left wrist when he checked his swing on May 31, 2008, the same night former Red Sox teammate Manny Ramirez hit his 500th career home run.

That wrist injury forced him to the DL and set Ortiz back from an offensive standpoint for the remainder of that season and at the start of the 2009 season.
