Dice-K progressing

June, 17, 2010
BOSTON -- Believe it or not, there is something else going on around Fenway Park besides the return of Manny Ramirez.

Daisuke Matsuzaka, placed on the disabled list on June 13 (retroactive to June 8) with tightness in his forearm, tossed a 40-pitch bullpen session Thursday and everything went well, according to Red Sox manager Terry Francona. The next step for the righthander will be a three-inning simulated game on Saturday. Matsuzaka is scheduled to throw 15 pitches in each of the three innings.

He is eligible to come off the DL on Wednesday in Colorado, but Francona isn’t about to rush his return.

“We’re not eyeing anything. We just want to see how he does. That’s getting a little bit ahead, but we’ll see,” Francona said.
