Lowrie: 'I felt like I was in a sauna'

August, 14, 2010
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Red Sox infielder Jed Lowrie was removed from Friday’s game with heat exhaustion and needed two IV bags in order to rehydrate. He was dizzy and was extremely pale following Boston’s extra-inning loss to the Texas Rangers.

Lowrie is not in the lineup tonight, but he’s expected to be ready to play on Sunday.

“He’s much improved,” Francona said. “We’ll try to stay away from him today and the hope would be we’ll play him tomorrow. [Rangers starter] C.J. Wilson is a nice guy to have some righties in there. We’ll see. I don’t think it’s going to be 70 degrees and breezy.”

Lowrie sat at his stall this afternoon in the visitor’s clubhouse at Rangers Ballpark and was clearly feeling better.

“I feel healthy,” he said.

It was the first time Lowrie has ever been removed from the game and needed an IV to replenish fluids.

“I felt like I was in a sauna,” he said.
