Beltre leaves team for baby's birth

October, 1, 2010
It's possible that Adrian Beltre has played his final game for the Red Sox. The third baseman has returned to his L.A. home to be with his wife, Sandra, for the impending birth of his child, according to the team. He is not expected to be back for this weekend's season-finale series against the Yankees.

Beltre, who had 49 doubles, 28 home runs and 102 RBIs while batting .321/.365/.553 over 154 games, is a free agent after the season and it's unclear whether the Sox will bring him back.

Sox manager Terry Francona had praise for Beltre. "He's a real pro, Francona told The Boston Globe. "He was pretty honest about what he was doing here. He was coming here on a make-good [contract]. He made pretty good. Worked out for everybody. Where it goes, that will be interesting."
