Cameron looking for more steals in 2010

December, 16, 2009

BOSTON -- The 2009 season was the first of Mike Cameron's Major League career in which he didn't swipe double digits in bases. Showing he's still got plenty of quickness, he was fast to defend himself when asked whether that number could grow again in Boston.

"Last year was a little bit of an aberration," said Cameron, who finished with seven steals after posting no less than 13 over his previous 12 seasons. "It's the first time I've had a single digits in stolen bases. I ran into a situation where, you had to abide by the rules of the manager&

"I can still score from first base on a double ... I can definitely get my total back up into the 20's. It's up to me to stay aggressive on the basepaths. I gotta be able to get on first base to steal a base, but those things are still part of my credentials -- what I'm able to do. Hopefully I get a chance to add some of my game to this lineup."

Cameron's last 20-plus stolen base season came in 2006 when he swiped 25 bases for the Padres. He had 30 steals in 2004 with the Mets.
