BOSTON -- Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said he will not need X-rays after being hit in the left hand by a CC Sabathia pitch in the fifth inning Sunday night.

“I don’t think it’s broken or anything,” Gonzalez said after the game. “I was able to swing the bat. I’m going to be fine.”

Gonzalez stayed in the game, finishing 1 for 3 with a walk.

“It actually just made it numb,” he said. “I just kept moving it just to make sure I kept the feeling in it.”

Manager Terry Francona came out of the dugout to check on Gonzalez.

“It got him on his left hand on his knuckles," Francona said. "When I went out there he was actually pretty sore, but by the time he got around [the bases] and got to [third-base coach Tim Bogar] he said he was OK.”
