Metroplex gets second Coach of Year

December, 17, 2009
SMU's 7-5 record marks the largest turnaround in the nation in 2009 (+6 wins) and the Mustangs' berth in the Hawaii Bowl ois its first bowl appearance in 25 years. Those factors led The Sporting News to name second-year coach June Jones Conference USA's Coach of the Year.

The even-keeled Jones guided SMU to a 6-2 record and a share of the C-USA Western Division Championship. SMU also handed league champion East Carolina its only loss in conference play.

SMU will face Nevada on Christmas Eve in the Hawaii Bowl.

Jones is not stranger to coach of the year awards. The program builder has won four conference coach of the year honors in his 11 seasons as a head coach and he's won three national coach of the year awards.
