Patterson accepts Coach of Year award

January, 5, 2010
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- TCU coach Gary Patterson made his way to Southern California Tuesday, the day after his Horned Frogs lost in the Fiesta Bowl to Boise State 17-10, to pick up one of his numerous Coach of the Year awards.

This came courtesy of the Football Writers Association of America. Wearing a purple-and-white stripped tie, Patterson made a few cracks at the sports writers he so dearly loves. "It's definitely a positive to have writers stand up and clap for me," Patterson quipped as he took the microphone in front of a gathering of national sports writers.

Patterson's Horned Frogs completed a 12-1 season, going undefeated in the regular season and earing the school's first BCS berth.

"Twelve years ago people said it couldn't be done," Patterson said. "They said you can't get to a BCS game. They said you can't play for a national championship. That's what we're still trying to do."
