Aledo grad pitches Baylor to Getterman Classic title

February, 15, 2011
Aledo graduate Whitney Canion, a redshirt sophomore, returned to actiion in a very big way for Baylor. Having missed most of last season with a stress fracture in her pitching arm, she earned two wins vs. No. 24 Illinois as the Bears won the Getterman Classic.

Coming off a campaign in which it missed the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years, Baylor swept five games at home to win the Getterman Classic. The sweep not only marked the program's best start since the Bears advanced to the Women's College World Series in 2007, but the two wins vs. Illinois matched the Bears' number of wins against ranked opponents last season.

As a freshman in 2009, Canion won 27 games, struck out 415 batters and pitched Baylor to a super regional against Michigan.

"The doctors seem to be confident that she's going to be OK, and I think we've done everything possible. She feels good now," Baylor coach Glenn Moore said.
