CHICAGO -- Jeremy Hefner intended to fly ahead of the Mets to Denver to have a proper night's rest for his Thursday start against the Colorado Rockies.

He ended up traveling with the Mets after Wednesday night's 3-0 victory instead.

Hefner's 6 p.m. CT Southwest flight from Midway to Denver ended up getting pushed back to 10:40 p.m. So he eventually gave up and returned to U.S. Cellular Field.

Matt Harvey and Dillon Gee appear to have successfully made it to New York, though. Those pitchers are skipping the Denver leg because they open the Mets' weekend series in New York against the Washington Nationals.
