Post-spring college football power rankings

Which teams have moved up or down the Top 25 since spring football concluded? Our latest rankings start with the defending champ still in the top spot.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Iowa TE Noah Fant gives the Broncos vertical ability at the tight end position. With the athletic traits to flex from the formation, Fant can create matchups from multiple alignments for QB Joe Flacco.

Iowa TE T.J. Hockenson to the Lions at No.8 overall. Hockenson has the athletic traits to win in the passing game. He's a detailed route runner with the ability to produce after the catch. Plus, he will finish as a blocker. Think of Hockenson as a middle of the field threat for QB Matthew Stafford in Detroit.

The most dynamic game-breaker on each Top 25 team

Who will be the most electric players for the nation's top teams this season? Clemson and Alabama have an embarrassment of riches on offense, but they're not the only ones.

Iowa TE Noah Fant (6-foot-4, 249 pounds) posted ridiculous testing numbers today at the NFL combine. Fant ran a 4.50 40 yard dash with a 39.5-inch vertical jump and a 6.81 three-cone time. Fant has first-round ability at the position, with the skill set to flex from the formation and create matchups in the passing game.

ESPN Stats and Information

Iowa's Noah Fant had the best 40-yard dash (4.5), vertical jump (39.5"), and broad jump (10'7") among tight ends in this year's NFL Combine

Iowa's Noah Fant officially ran the fastest 40-yard dash of the tight ends at the NFL combine. His 4.50 edged out Caleb Wilson's 4.56. ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. has compared Fant to free agent Jared Cook, the former South Carolina tight end who ran a 4.50 40 at the combine in 2009. Fant is Kiper's third-ranked TE in the this class. Cook went in the third round to the Titans in 2009.

In a group of tight ends that is considered to be predominantly stocked with better pass catchers than in-line options overall, UCLA's Caleb Wilson and Iowa's Noah Fant were the fastest Saturday at the NFL's scouting combine. Wilson ran an unofficial 4.50 in the 40-yard dash while Fant clocked an unofficial 4.51 (one scout I contacted had him at a hand-held 4.49). Two of the other most highly-rated tight ends in the draft, Alabama's Irv Smith Jr. and Iowa's T.J. Hockenson, had their best of 40s of the day clocked unofficially at 4.64 and 4.71, respectively.

Iowa TE Noah Fant, who is one of two Hawkeyes at the position with the potential to be off the board in the first two rounds of next month's draft (T.J. Hockenson is the other) kicked off Saturday's workouts rather nicely at the scouting combine with an unofficial 4.51 40-yard dash in his first attempt. Hockenson ran a 4.71 (unofficial) in his first attempt.

Jeff Legwold ESPN Senior Writer

In a draft with many tight ends who are far more proficient in the passing game than they are along the line of scrimmage — "the guys who can do both are getting harder and harder to find because they're not in the college game in a lot of places," is how Broncos president of football operations/general manager John Elway put it — Iowa's T.J. Hockenson has the all-around potential people in the league want. "I take a lot of pride in being a complete tight end," Hockenson said. " ... I love to block, I love to run routes, I love catching the ball."
