Of all the conflicts between NASCAR Cup Series events and NFL home games in the same market on the same day, the biggest is the Indianapolis Colts opening the NFL season at home Sept. 9 on the same day of the Brickyard 400, which moved from July to September and will be the NASCAR Cup regular-season finale. IMS President Doug Boles: “We’re confident in our ongoing efforts to refresh the event and engage with our fan base. We knew this would happen one year or another when we made the switch and it doesn’t alter our approach or positive attitude. The cooler weather, a regular season championship to wrap up and our partnership with a major record label (as a race sponsor) are some of several reasons to feel optimistic about the race.”
Denny Hamlin won his foundation's late model stock race, edging Kyle Busch at Langley Speedway. Hamlin won his first race at Langley in 1997 and still has that trophy in his garage. What the win meant:
