Two games of special interest tonight, each contesting a spot in tomorrow's Bracketology update: Loyola Chicago at Drake (MVC) and South Dakota St at South Dakota (Summit League). Also playing for bracket spots tonight are Syracuse (vs. Boston College) and Boise State (vs. San Jose State). Yep, it's getting to be that time...

BIGGEST WINNERS (04Jan2018): Congratulations Tulsa (AAC), Drake (MVC), UL Lafayette (Sun Belt), Canisius (MAAC), UMBC (America East), Radford (Big South), Colgate (Patriot), Robert Morris (NEC) and New Orleans (SLC). All are surprising early leaders in their respective conferences and thus appear as automatic qualifiers in the latest Bracketology.

Minnesota escapes with an unexpectedly tough win at home over Drake 68-67. The score's a bit misleading (the Bulldogs hit a 3 at the final horn), but the Golden Gophers can definitely use the 10-day break they're about to get. That being said, Jordan Murphy continues to be an incredible performer on a confusing team: 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting, with 18 rebounds and four blocks.

If you predicted Minnesota would take its first lead at home against Drake with nine minutes left in the game, take one step forward. The Golden Gophers have dropped three of their last four games, and Richard Pitino's guys have their hands full against the 5-4 Bulldogs at Williams Arena.

It's only January 3, and there are already four programs without a permanent head coach: South Florida, George Washington, Drake and Morehead State.

Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti has resigned. The Bulldogs are 1-7 this season and went 32-69 in Giacoletti's three-plus seasons in charge.
