Florida needed to make its second-round game against Michigan a relatively low-scoring affair to have a reasonable chance to win in Des Moines. The Gators accomplished that but still couldn't generate enough offense to overcome the Wolverines. Florida shot just 29 percent in the second half, including 3-of-14 from three. The Gators went a stretch of over five minutes late in the game without a point and fell 64-49. Michigan moves to the the Sweet 16 and the West Regional in Anaheim.

Credit to Florida for finding a way to hang around. The Gators trailed Michigan by as many as 15 points early in the second half but a 9-0 run kept the Gators in the game. Michigan is up 46-39 with less than 12 minutes left.

Three times now that Florida has fouled a Michigan three-point shooter. And we have almost 14 minutes to go.

Michigan went on a 7-0 run to start the second half and leads Florida 39-28. It's difficult to see the Gators generating enough offense to rally from a much-bigger deficit. Michigan's man-to-man defense has been smothering at times, as it was in the Wolverines' first-round win over Montana.

Florida had a tough time getting a good look inside the arc in the first half against Michigan. The Gators as a result took almost half of their 27 shots from three. Florida is staying with Michigan because the Gators are uncharacteristically shooting well from outside (6-of-12). The Gators trail 32-28 but they'll need to be more productive near the basket in the second half or continue to shoot unusually well from long range.

Florida entered today's second-round game against Michigan shooting just 33 percent from three but the Gators are staying in the game early because of their long-range shooting. The Gators are 4-of-7 on three-pointers, so their deficit is just 18-14 with less than 12 minutes left in the first half.
