    No one thought they could compete in the NL East this year because all of the talent they lost. They didn't lose Bobby Cox. Not only did the Braves compete, they won the division for the 13th straight time.

    Atlanta lost Gary Sheffield, Greg Maddux and Javy Lopez to free agency, Marcus Giles broke his collarbone, Adam LaRoche dislocated his shoulder and Mark DeRosa didn't work out at 3B.

    Julio Franco took over part time at first and did a steady job in the field and at the plate. Cox just gets it done with a new cast of players.

    Buck Martinez re-joined ESPN in 2002, following a one-year stint as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, and currently serves as analyst on ESPN's Wednesday night national telecasts of Major League Baseball.
