Law: The biggest busts of the 2009 MLB draft

Remember Tony Sanchez, Donavan Tate and Matt Hobgood? Few do -- but all were selected ahead of Mike Trout. Here's a look at the first-rounders who never really panned out.

Chavis lifts Red Sox over Rockies 6-5 in 10 innings

Sale pulled with 17 K's in 7 IP; Red Sox fall in 11

Chris Sale struck out a career-high 17 batters in seven innings against the Rockies on Tuesday, but he was relieved to start the eighth, and Boston went on to lose 5-4 in 11 innings.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

The Rockies get the last laugh, however: They beat the Red Sox 5-4 in 11 innings despite striking out 24 times. Five players struck out three times. But Mark Reynolds' two-out single drove in the winning run and the Rockies snap Boston's five-game win streak. Baseball is weird.

This is ridiculous in a good way. And in a bad way. After Chris Sale struck out 17 Rockies in seven innings, Red Sox relievers have added seven more in the next three innings for a team total of 24 through the top of the 10th inning. In Sale's last start, the Red Sox became the first team in MLB history with 22 strikeouts and no walks. They have 24 K's and no walks so far in this one.

BBTN: Bumgarner's Future, AL East, Lester, Yelich

According to the Cubs, this is now the club's longest-ever home game (by innings) against the Brewers. They played a 14-inning affair at Wrigley Field on Sept. 18, 1999. Milwaukee won that one even though Chicago's Sammy Sosa hit his 60th home run of the season in that contest.
