Cardinals rookie Dakota Hudson tossed six innings of five-hit ball, Royals counterpart Brad Keller allowed a no-hit bid to crumble in spectacular fashion, and St. Louis went on to beat Kansas City 6-0 on Wednesday night for a two-game sweep.


Jackson wins in return to Tigers, beats Royals 5-2

Edwin Jackson pitched neatly into the seventh inning in his return to the Detroit Tigers, overcoming an inside-the-park home run to lead off the game and beating the Kansas City Royals 5-2 on Friday night.

The Blue Jays' announcement Tuesday that they'll extend safety netting at the Rogers Centre brings the total to 8 MLB teams that have installed or committed to extensions since a toddler's 5/29 head injury in Houston on a foul line drive. Two — the White Sox and Nationals — recently debuted new netting and the Dodgers, Orioles, Pirates, Rangers and Royals said they plan extensions. Also on Tue., the NY Times reported that the two U.S. Senators from Illinois sent Commissioner Rob Manfred a letter urging a release of data on seating that is most vulnerable to dangerous liners. More than a dozen fans have been hurt since the Houston episode.


Smeltzer, Twins sweep Royals with 3-0 win

Devin Smeltzer pitched two-hit ball into the seventh inning for his first major league win, and the Minnesota Twins completed a three-game sweep by blanking the Kansas City Royals 3-0 on Sunday.
