Linda Goldbloom, mother of 3 & grandmother of 7, would have turned 80 Thu., but died last 8/29 after a foul behind the plate — just over safety netting, into the Dodger Stadium loge — struck her head on 8/25. L.A. debuted heightened netting this week & plans other extensions. Goldbloom's husband Erwin told ESPN's Outside the Lines he's pleased the tragedy is contributing to more protection & players' peace of mind on foul balls. "I also hope that by the beginning of next season, all MLB teams and other level teams will have taken steps to increase fan safety." He said a memorial to be unveiled next month at a cemetery about 10 miles from the ballpark will say: "Loving wife, mother, bubbe and friend. Her life that touched many will live forever." (Note: "bubbe" is Yiddish for grandmother)
