Francisco Lindor has already been ruled out of Cleveland's opener with a calf injury (he'll start the season on the injured list) and now Jose Ramirez was carted off the field on Sunday after fouling a ball off his knee. Ramirez finished third in the AL MVP voting in 2018 and led MLB third basemen in home runs, steals, OPS and walk rate. This could be a little break for the Twins, expected to be Cleveland's best competition in the AL Central. The Twins host the Indians in the season-opening series.

Giants acquire OF Reed in trade with Twins

Michael Reed, who batted .342 with a .453 OBP in the minors last season, was traded from the Twins to the Giants, who are in need of an impact outfielder.

Good news for the Twins, as third baseman Miguel Sanó is scheduled to have his boot removed and start baseball activities tomorrow. Sanó suffered a severe cut in his right foot in the off-season, and will likely miss the first month of the regular season. Sanó cut his leg on a metal stair in an accident during his winter ball's team celebration in the Dominican Republic.

Chris Sale, who is reportedly in talks to sign a 5-year, $145 million contract extension with Sox, was scheduled to start in his last Grapefruit League game today, but he was scratched. Dan Runzler will be on the mound instead.

Baldelli looks to lead turnaround for revamped Twins

The Minnesota Twins hired the youngest manager in the major leagues. They remade the right side of the infield. There will be a new closer, too, should rookie skipper Rocco Baldelli decide to designate a particular reliever for ninth-inning duty.

Miguel Sano's Achilles' injury, which is expected to keep him out through April, resulted in a move from 3B22 to 3B27. I had already considered potential Marwin Gonzalez (and others') threats to Sano's playing time, so Sano's previous rank was conservative enough as is.

Rangers acquire outfielder Granite from Twins

The Texas Rangers acquired outfielder Zack Granite from Minnesota for right-hander Xavier Moore and $50,000, and the Twins dealt Moore to the Baltimore Orioles for $750,000 in 2019-20 international signing bonus pool allocation.

Byron Buxton's three home runs and 11 RBIs early in spring games really don't matter much to me. What does stand out: He has yet to whiff in 11 trips to the plate. Improving his contact rate would go the furthest towards him finally realizing his potential.
