When Danny Farquhar walked into the news conference room at Steinbrenner Field just now he excitedly blurted out: "This is so cool!" He went on to later add: "Just to think 10 months ago that I would be here, you don't know. And I am extraordinarily just thankful."

Aaron Boone tried hard to avoid discussing Luis Severino's pending extension, but he was posed a hypothetical about locking up a good young pitcher long term. His response: "He's a great pitcher and I hope he's here for a long time. Hope we can get him out tomorrow. Missed seeing him on the field today."

Aaron Boone also said Aroldis Chapman's knee, which was so problematic down the stretch last year, is in "good condition." CC Sabathia's knee is one the Yankees are keeping an eye on as they ease him into spring training work. It prob won't be until March 1 before he does PFP and mound work.

Although the Yankees are planning to keep Gary Sánchez out of game action the first week of spring training following his offseason shoulder surgery, he isn't really all that limited right now, Aaron Boone said. "He's full steam ahead," per the manager.

Adam Ottavino said this today about wearing the No. 0: "I didn't wanna do anything to upset people but I had to be myself and didn't know what the organization would think. So I said it's kinda ... ‘the balls in your court.' For me, it's just a number I'm comfortable with."

Gary Sánchez spent a large chunk of today's open clubhouse speaking to reporters about moving on from his difficult last season, and being motivated for this one. "To be honest, guys, I already forgot about last year," he said through a translator.

Jacoby Ellsbury will not start spring training with the Yankees. The OF had problems with his plantar fasciitis creep up recently, so he'll stay in Arizona a couple more weeks, Aaron Boone said. It could be March until he resumes baseball activity.

Aaron Boone watched all of last year's World Series — even the Red Sox's celebration. Gave an eloquent answer about watching that, but he ended it by saying: "That adds a little fuel to the fire, certainly."

Aaron Boone says the Yankees will "slow-play" CC Sabathia a bit this spring as the vet finishes his recovery following a December heart procedure. That unexpected procedure slowed Sabathia's workout routine and his recovery from offseason knee surgery. Likely a couple more weeks until he throws a bullpen session.
