Eric Hosmer hit two doubles and scored the go-ahead run and Tyson Ross won for the first time in more than a month as the San Diego Padres cooled off the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 on Friday night.

With Marte ailing, Pirates call up Meadows

The Pirates are calling up top outfield prospect Austin Meadows from Triple-A. With Starling Marte nursing discomfort in his right side, Meadows will see some time in center field.

The Pirates spun their seventh shutout of the season, most in the majors, as Trevor Williams continues to be one of the early surprises, improving to 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA. I don't know if he can keep it going given a low strikeout rate, but batters are hitting just .189 against his fastball, helping him to a low BABIP so far.
