Stephen A.: Suns have to take Ayton No. 1 overall (0:51)

Josh Jackson beamed as he stood on the Lottery stage after the show was finished. After watching Devin Booker represent the Suns at the event before, Jackson was happy to get the last laugh on his teammate this time. "Hopefully he's really happy," Jackson said of Booker. "I came out and did what he couldn't do, which doesn't happen too often. So I feel pretty good."

Wild night here in Chicago with Sacramento jumping to #2 and Phoenix landing the 1st overall pick. Who Sacramento takes 2nd overall could play a big role in shaping the rest of the top-5. If Phoenix does opt for Ayton at #1, I think Doncic could fit with speedy point guard De'Aaron Fox. He's at his best as a playmaker but can also play off the ball and needs an explosive shot creator next to him. Will be interesting to see how this next month plays out.

Suns land No. 1 overall pick; Kings, Hawks next

After winning just 21 games this season, the Suns got their biggest win of the year Tuesday, grabbing the No. 1 overall pick in June's NBA draft.

Kevin Pelton ESPN Staff Writer

The Phoenix Suns were big winners of Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery, landing the No. 1 overall pick. The Suns will have their choice of center Deandre Ayton, who played at the nearby University of Arizona, and Slovenian star Luka Doncic -- who played for new Phoenix coach Igor Kokoskov while winning last summer's EuroBasket. The Sacramento Kings landed the second pick with the Atlanta Hawks picking third. The Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks, who entered the lottery with the second- and third-best odds, respectively, dropped to fourth and fifth.

Kokoskov 'thrilled' with chance to coach Suns

Jazz assistant Igor Kokoskov says he is "thrilled" to be taking over as the Phoenix Suns' new head coach after Utah's season concludes and "proud" to be the first NBA head coach born and raised outside North America.

Royce Young ESPN Staff Writer

In a statement, news Suns coach Igor Kokoskov says he will remain with the Jazz for the rest of the postseason: "I am thrilled to be the next coach of the Phoenix Suns and greatly appreciate the opportunity that Robert Sarver and Ryan McDonough have given me. I am certainly proud to be the first head coach in the NBA raised outside North America and just as excited to return to the Suns organization and Phoenix, my family's second home for the past 10 years. It's a place where I was a part of tremendously talented and successful teams and I look forward to working towards a Championship. My time here in Utah has been invaluable and we are in the middle of an important playoff run with a very special group of players and coaches who deserve my full attention. At the end of the season, I look forward to turning focus to my next challenge, building a strong program in Phoenix and creating the success the fans deserve."
