Fans have reasons to be thankful

From the Army-Navy rivalry, to the USC song girls, college football has given us so much to appreciate over the past 135 years.

The turkey, a decided underdog who never wins (let alone covers), is in the oven, basting and scheduled to be carved in football households sometime between halftime of Detroit-Indianapolis and the start of Chicago-Dallas. The pumpkin pie will be out just in time for West Virginia's kickoff at Pittburgh.

It's a day to be thankful, but diehard college football fans are thankful every autumn Saturday. The great game, and all of its tradition, has given us so much to appreciate over the past 135 years.

Armed with the cranberry sauce, I am thankful:

Carroll H. "Beano" Cook joined ESPN in March 1986 and served as a college football studio commentator and occasional sideline reporter, in addition to offering college football commentary on ESPN Radio. He died in October 2012.
