Football 101: Triple option
The Midshipmen head into Saturday's game with Army at 7-4, and their success can be directly attributed to their triple-option offense. Navy is No. 1 in the country in rushing offense, averaging 323.09 yards per game. The Midshipmen are also 23rd in total offense with 433 yards per game and are No. 28 in scoring offense, averaging 31.6 point per game.
The offensive scheme that remains the most difficult to defend is the true triple option. To put Navy's success at running it in proper perspective, simply compare their offensive statistics to another service academy -- Army.
