Colorado State senior linebacker Eric Pauly, one of the league's finest players the past few seasons, saw his collegiate career end when two Utah receivers hit him simultaneously. A penalty was called on the Utes, but Pauly suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

"It was about as bad as I have ever seen," said Rams coach Sonny Lubick. "(Pauly) was removed from the play by 10 yards. It was like two guys came after him with intent. They came after him -- whack, whack -- and high-lowed him. There is no place in football for something like that. It certainly gives me a lot to wonder about. (Pauly) has been a leader for this program in every aspect. He's everything you want in a guy."

Courtney Jones, a sophomore, replaces Pauly in the starting lineup.
