Saturday's game between Boston College and Notre Dame in Chestnut Hill, Ma., could decide which team earns one of the Big East's five guaranteed bowl berths and which team stays home in December.

The Big East and Notre Dame have an agreement that allows the Irish to play in the conference-affiliated Gator Bowl, Insight Bowl, Continental Tire Bowl or San Francisco Bowl if Notre Dame does not earn a BCS berth.

The Irish are only 2-4 heading into Saturday, but if they beat Boston College and finish the season 7-5 or 6-6, they would likely earn a spot in one of the Big East bowls even if BC ends up with a slightly better record. With the Eagles headed to the ACC, they can forget about the Big East office lobbying for BC to get a bowl bid over Notre Dame.
