A look around the MAC

Marshall and Miami renew a rivalry Wednesday that has been defined by exceptional play, hot tempers and flashes of controversy.

It seems almost unnatural for Miami (Ohio) and Marshall to play with the leaves still green, the mercury well above 60 degrees and fan fervor not quite at its annual zenith.

For the last seven seasons the Miami-Marshall matchup has been nothing short of a championship game. During that span no other MAC program has won the East Division. In five of the last six years the game has determined the division winner.

But with Marshall's departure to Conference USA following the season, one of the league's most passionate rivalries will end Wednesday, at least in its current form.
