A look around the Big East
Take a team-by-team look at the Big East.
How's this for good fortune? The Eagles (5-2, 1-1) didn't play last week and still cracked the rankings, checking in at No. 24 in the Associated Press poll and No. 25 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll. "I guess we shouldn't play," quipped coach Tom O'Brien. "Obviously, we impressed everybody with our off-week." The last time BC earned a ranking was at the end of the 2001 season when it finished No. 21 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Since then, the Eagles have struggled to climb back into the rankings.
Clearly, their stirring 24-23 come-from-behind victory over No. 24 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., on Oct. 23 put them in this position. "We're not worried about it, though," O'Brien said. The Eagles can't afford to dwell on it, particularly with Rutgers, which is coming off a 35-30 loss to WVU, looking to pull off an upset at Alumni Stadium. The Knights, however, haven't beaten the Eagles in 13 years, and it isn't likely to happen Saturday.
