Missouri returns to anonymity

Last season, Missouri's junior quarterback was talked about as a certified Heisman Trophy candidate. His Tigers were the popular pick to win the Big 12 North. His legend as a play-making wizard, apparently, was set to only grow.

Brad Smith met the hype. The hype won.

It's a new spring in Columbia, and the memories of opportunity lost have diminished, though not totally dissipated. Smith was an honorable mention All-Big 12 pick and his hapless Tigers stumbled home with their main claim to fame being the team that knocked Iowa State out of the North title. Hopes are again high. For instance, just this week offensive coordinator Dave Christensen is raving about how Smith ran a fully automatic 4.35 40-yard dash. "Four-three-six," Smith corrects.
