Holdouts mean little in big picture

As we approach the opening of NFL training camps, look for a lot of last-minute draft pick signings throughout the league. Agents and teams will be much more in the mindset of settling on middle ground now that camps are looming and there is some sort of time constraint on their dealings.

Demands on both sides get pushed to the side as compromise is in the air. Outlandish requests disappear and more time is spent on realistic numbers.

It happens in any business and in almost every negotiation. The timeline is very predictable and doesn't seem to change from year to year. Having done many of these deals over the years, I always found that the threat of a holdout does not carry the weight it used to.
