  • Dick Vermeil on how he addressed his Chiefs team at the conclusion of the summer's final minicamp: "I told them that at this time of year, this is the best football team I've ever been around. I've been around two Super Bowl teams -- one that won and one that lost. I think this team right now, as it stands, is the best one I've ever been around. I want them to feel good about it, and I want them to be aware of what they have to do."

  • Sources say it's this simple: The Buccaneers will not budge when it comes to renegotiating WR Keenan McCardell's contract, and the longer the impasse with the veteran continues, the more likely it is the Bucs will look to trade McCardell or release him outright prior to the start of the season.

  • Perhaps the most intriguing player in the Rams' upcoming training camp could be rookie DE Tony Hargrove. The Rams' third-round pick wasted no time demonstrating his pass-rush ability in the team's minicamps, but he's as raw as a steak tartare, and DL coach Bill Kollar has shown a preference in the past for more seasoned, polished types.
