Packers' defensive strategy backfires
The Packers used a lot of zone schemes early at Philadelphia as they tried to avoid giving up big plays by providing their corners safety help on Terrell Owens. But their defensive line couldn't get to McNabb with just a four-man rush, so they tried to apply pressure with the blitz, and that forced them to play man-to-man behind it.
McNabb did a great job of recognizing the blitz and finding the matchup he wanted, especially Brian Westbrook against a linebacker. The Packers also rolled their coverage toward Owens (8 rec, 161 yds, 1 TD), but that gave the other Eagles receivers man-to-man coverage.
