The Cowboys have finalized their staff with the addition of Adam Kleffner as assistant offensive line coach. Kleffner joins the Cowboys from Missouri where he was a quality control coach focusing on the line and earned positive marks from offensive coordinator Derek Dooley, the former Cowboys' receivers coach, and offensive line coach Brad Davis. Marc Colombo was named the offensive line coach midway through last season and Hudson Houck ended the year as a consultant. Colombo signed a new deal after the season. Steve Brown, who helps with running backs and is an offensive assistant, will return as will Andre Gurode and Phillip Tanner as defensive end special teams assistants respectively.

Jason Garrett is starting 2019, the final year of his contract, without the benefit of an extension to take him off the hot seat before the season even begins. “We're both happy with where we are,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “And we've done this before. We both have real trust in each other. So a little more unique than normal.” In 2014, Garrett entered the final year of his contract after three straight 8-8 finishes and directed the Cowboys to a 12-4 mark that earned him a five-year, $30 million extension.

This will make the folks hoping the Cowboys make a play for free-agent safety Earl Thomas when the market opens in March. When asked if he could foresee any talks about the safety position, owner and general manager Jerry Jones simply said, “Yes. That's about all I'll say, but yes.”

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones would not get into the impending negotiations with DeMarcus Lawrence when asked multiple times. Today is the first day teams can put the franchise tag on players but the Cowboys are hopeful they can workout a long-term deal with their two-time Pro Bowl defensive end before needing to use the tag on March 5. "I'm not going to get into any of our strategies our how we are going to be doing it," Jones said. "It is strategic but DeMarcus is certainly a significant part of the now and the future."

Tony Romo has accepted a sponsor's exemption to the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson that will be played May 9-12 at Dallas' Trinity Forest Golf Club. It will be the second exemption the former Cowboys quarterback has received to a PGA Tour event having played in the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship where he missed the cut. Romo, who calls Trinity Forest his home course, has attempted to qualify for the Nelson multiple times.

The best cheesy Valentines from around the NFL

Nothing says "I love you" like an exquisite pun from your significant other's favorite NFL team. Here are some of the best from around the league, including from the league's leading Casanova, the Atlanta Falcons.

Count Jason Witten among those who believe in Cowboys new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, saying he sees the offense “taking a big step in 2019.” How will that happen? “I think he'll do the things that Dak (Prescott) likes to do. He'll do the things they have to do to win," Witten said. "I think he'll use the pass to set up the run, not just the run to set up the pass. I think he'll do a good job with that. Look, they're a run-first team. The strengths is Zeke and the offensive line. Certainly (there's) (Amari) Cooper and Dak and they're playmaking ability, but he'll add some nice wrinkles to that offense.”

Dak Prescott earned a raise of $1.3 million in 2019 under the proven-performance escalator for playing in more than 35 percent of the snaps in two of his first three seasons, according to NFLPA figures. Prescott was set to make $720,000 in the final year of his rookie deal but will now make $2.02 million unless he and the team are able to reach an agreement on a long-term deal this offseason. Defensive tackle Maliek Collins and cornerback Anthony Brown also earned the escalator and will make $2.02 million in 2019.

I'm sure this will devastate the Patriots: they finished fourth in FPI's final 2018 rankings.

Jerry Jones on the selection of Gil Brandt into the Pro Football Hall of Fame: "Gil Brandt set the standard for all scouts and personnel executives to follow, and aspire to, in the NFL. He drafted Hall of Fame players in the first round and in the late rounds and helped build the foundation for the tremendous legacy and success that Cowboys enjoy to this day. We are so proud of his accomplishments with the organization and just as grateful for what he has done over the course of the last 30 years an ambassador for the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys and the game of football. Gil changed the NFL in the draft room and is more than worthy of this recognition."
