Bill O'Brien spoke passionately about the Santa Fe shooting, saying that there needs to be change: "Something's wrong when there's 22 mass shootings in the last six months in schools in this country. Something's wrong and to me, it starts with what the laws are, what politicians set to be the laws and the communication that has to take place to enact laws that are in place where schools are safe, because it's ridiculous right now. It's horrendous that a 17-year-old kid can bring a gun into a school and murder 10 people. That's horrible."

Texans safety Justin Reid was vocal on the practice field during rookie minicamp. Bill O'Brien said he thought the third-round pick had "good size" and good speed." "[He's] a smart guy," O'Brien said. "A guy that's a versatile guy. He can do some different things. He can help us on special teams [and] obviously help us on defense. We just got here, so we'll see how he does in our system."

Justin Reid, the Texans' third-round pick, said he is "proud" of his brother Eric for standing up for what he believes in while protesting during the national anthem. Last week, Eric Reid filed a collusion grievance against the NFL; the free agent safety was one of the first players to join Colin Kaepernick in kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. “I haven't had a lot of time to digest it yet, because I've been so focused on my own journey, getting prepared for the combine and then for the draft, and now I'm moving onto a big chapter of my life," Reid said. "I haven't had a lot of downtime to really process my feelings on that.”
