Jags to play two London games to boost revenue

The Jaguars will play two games in London next season in an attempt to increase their local revenue and escape the bottom quartile of the league in that category.

Jaguars players almost certainly won't be happy with second game in London. Playing in the UK makes them subject to significantly higher taxes than they would be in the United States and now the players will pay that twice in 2020 – in effect they're taking a pay cut so the Jaguars can make more money. Players grumbled about the higher tax rate in the locker room before. It surely will be louder now.

More Jaguars owner Shad Khan: "Winning is the top priority. Everything we're striving to do for the franchise and the city is about winning and about what building a franchise that expects to win consistently. I just came back from the Super Bowl and obviously witnessed first-hand the energy of the fans and obviously joy of Kansas City fans afterwards and I want that more than anything for the Jaguars fans. And we're not going to rest until we get there."

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

Jaguars owner Shad Khan expects a positive fan reaction to second London home game: “I think if you go back when the first game was announced and really historically what that's done for the city and done for the Jaguars, so my expectation is that it should be very positive," he said. "Everything we're doing helps the city, helps us, and that's what you need a small-market team to do to get on a competitive footing with all the resources you need to compete with the other big-market teams.”

The Jaguars make roughly twice on a home game in London than they do on a home game in TIAA Bank Field. Team president Mark Lamping said adding another game in Wembley was "the right action" for the team to take and the best way to offset the boost the Chargers, Raiders and Rams will be receiving from moving into new stadiums and stabilize the long-term future of the franchise."

The Jaguars are moving a second home game in 2020 overseas to London's Wembley Stadium in an attempt to increase their local revenue and escape the bottom quartile of the league in that category, the team announced. The games will be held on back-to-back Sundays and dates and opponents will be announced in April when the league reveals the schedule. However, it will not be either Pittsburgh or Chicago.
