Jags' Lee returns after missing '18, eyes opener

Marqise Lee, who missed all of 2018 after suffering torn anterior cruciate, posterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in a preseason game, says he'll be ready for the 2019 season opener.

Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (knee) was taken off the physically unable to perform list on Saturday and participated in practice. Lee is the Jaguars' most experienced receiver (171 career catches). He missed the 2018 season after suffering a severe knee injury during the third preseason game.

Doug Marrone on QB Gardner Minshew, who threw for 202 yards in three quarters of work in the Jaguars' 24-10 loss to Philadelphia: "I thought that Gardner gave us a really good opportunity to win the game. … At the end of the day, he did a lot. He did a lot for me where I feel like he's done a good job. There's not a lot of snaps left. He'll get most of them coming up. ... With Gardner tonight, I was happy. He got us out of four things that a lot of young quarterbacks are not going to be able to do that. He's a bright kid. He's a smart kid. I think that he showed that he got better from the week before."

Jaguars announce following players not expected to play against Philadelphia tonight: QB Nick Foles, RB Leonard Fournette, CB Jalen Ramsey, CB A.J. Bouye, WR Dede Westbrook, WR Chris Conley, WR Tyre Brady, S Cody Davis, CB D.J. Hayden, RB Ryquell Armstead, S Ronnie Harrison, LB Myles Jack, DE Lerentee McCray, LB Quincy Williams, C Brandon Linder, G Andrew Norwell, LT Cam Robinson, RT Jawaan Taylor, TE Charles Jones, WR Marqise Lee (PUP), and LB Jake Ryan (active/non-football injury).

More Jaguars Tuesday training camp report: Coach Doug Marrone has praised DT Taven Bryan over the past week and said today that Bryan is "starting to play really well. That's exciting for us." When asked earlier in the week what Bryan did well in the preseason opener (he didn't record a tackle) Marrone said that Bryan did a good job getting off blocks and getting into the backfield. Bryan was the team's first-round pick last year and had 20 tackles and one sack while playing behind Malik Jackson. The Jaguars need him to step up as the top backup at three-technique DT.

Jaguars Tuesday training camp report: One of the more interesting position battles has been for the fourth, fifth and sixth receiver spots behind Dede Westbrook, DJ Chark and Chris Conley (Marqise Lee is still on PUP). Keelan Cole and Terrelle Pryor likely headline the list, but C.J. Board, Tyre Brady, Tre McBride, and Raphael Leonard have all had standout moments in camp. On Tuesday it was McBride who caught back-to-back TD passes from Gardner Minshew in 7-on-7. One was a leaping catch in the back of the end zone in which he managed to get both feet inbounds before falling to the ground. It was one of the better catches of camp.

More Monday Jaguars training camp report: Things got a little testy twice in the morning practice. S Ronnie Harrison knocked TE Ben Koycak to the ground, Koyack didn't like it, and the offense and defense exchanged words. Later in the practice, undrafted rookie LB Connor Strachan knocked RB Thomas Rawls to the ground and Rawls jumped up and grabbed Strachan's facemask, shook it, and said a few words. Neither of those moments resulted in anything more, though. The Jaguars have avoided any fights in camp.

Jaguars Monday training camp report: LT Cam Robinson coming off PUP and doing individual drills and walk through was the main story of the day. Expect that to be the extent of what Robinson does for the rest of this week before he's clear for any contact work or full participating. "Everything I've been doing has been going well," Robinson said. "There's been good days and bad days. That's part of the rehab process, but we've been trending in the right direction so we kind of just want to keep that going.”

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said LT Cam Robinson will come off PUP today. That comes two days after Marrone said he wasn't sure if Robinson would be ready for the season. Marrone said medical staff told him today they were going to take him off and put him through individual drills. Marrone said he can't answer why that changed so drastically. "This morning I was told something different," he said. "Now I'm happy."

More Jaguars Sunday training camp report: With Quincy William sidelined for at least the rest of the preseason because of a knee injury, Najee Goode seems to have taken over at weakside linebacker. Coach Doug Marrone praised Goode's play in the preseason opener and Goode kept it up with an interception of a Nick Foles pass inside the 10-yard line today.

Jaguars Sunday training camp report: QB Gardner Minshew didn't play well in his preseason debut but he had a good day today. He hooked up with WRs Tre McBride and Raphael Leonard on deep passes down the sideline and also threw a TD pass in the back of the end zone to C.J. Board (who did an impressive job of getting his feet down). ... Catch of the day is a tie between Board's play and the back-shoulder adjustment McBride made on another throw from Minshew with CB Quenton Meeks all over him.

Add WR Dede Westbrook to the list of Jaguars players dealing with an injury. He is being held out of Sunday's practice with groin soreness.
