Andy Reid wouldn't talk specifically about Seattle's unhappy safety, Earl Thomas, and whether the Chiefs would be interested in trading for him. But he seemed to indicate they're not in that market when he said in talking about trades in general: “I know the rumors are out there but that's not where we're at.''

Saturday: It's insane watching Mahomes play (1:20)

The Chiefs once again had trouble closing out an opponent, but they had built such a big lead it didn't matter. They led 35-7 late in the first half with five TDs in five possessions but had some interesting moments before outlasting the 49ers 38-27.The win followed a similar pattern from the Chiefs' first two games but Kansas City still moved to 3-0 and combined with Denver's loss is in sole possession of first place in the AFC West.

Patrick Mahomes has also scored more PPR fantasy points through three games than any other quarterback since 1950. Peyton Manning's 91.0 to start 2013 was the previous record.

Patrick Mahomes is now over 25 PPR fantasy points for the day, which means he's only the 15th player since 1950 to score at least that many in each of his team's first three games of the season. He's also the third QB to do it (Steve Young 1998, Donovan McNabb 2004).

Mahomes sets NFL mark with 13th TD of season

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdown passes in the first half Sunday against the 49ers, giving him 13 for the first three games of the season, an NFL record.

Demetrius Harris is the eighth Chiefs receiver with a TD catch this season with less than 2 1/2 games played. Patrick Mahomes has two TD passes today and 12 this season.

Tyreek Hill adjusts to the deep ball as well as any receiver. He outjumped two 49ers defenders for a 42-yard pass that set up the Chiefs for their third TD, a four-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes to Chris Conley. This one put the Chiefs ahead 21-7.

Anothere fast start for Chiefs OLB Dee Ford, who sacked Jimmy Garoppolo on third down to end a 49ers drive. Ford timed the snap perfectly, as he's done many times this season, for his second sack of the season.b

Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy hinted during the week at a big game for Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt, whose stats through the first two games lagged those from his rookie season in 2018. Hunt wasn't a huge factor on Kansas City's opening drive -- two carries for seven yards -- but he did score his first rushing TD of the season on a 1-yard run to put the Chiefs ahead of the 49ers 7-0.

Eric Berry was again at the center of Kansas City's huddle as the Chiefs gathered before a final pregame retreat to the locker room. The other starting safety, Daniel Sorensen, is also injured and not in uniform but he was out for warmups with a wrap on his injured left leg.

Eric Berry will miss his third straight game for the Chiefs because of what the team is calling a sore heel. The Chiefs will have RB Spencer Ware available. He missed practice on Friday because of a sore knee and was listed as questionable on the week's final injury report.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was chosen this week's community MVP by the NFL Players Association for his role in the opening of a robotics lab in Kansas City that will serve underprivileged kids. Kelce gave to the project $45,000, half from his Eighty-seven and Running Foundation and half on his own. “By far one of the coolest things I've experienced since being in the NFL,'' Kelce said of the award. “It's humbling. It really is. To be recognized for helping out in the community, it means everything to me.'' Kelce has been heavily involved in helping in the community since he joined the Chiefs in 2013. “My mother and father ingrained in me to give help whenever you can,'' Kelce said. “It's been who I am since I was a kid. When I got the platform to be in the NFL, it was definitely something I wanted to pursue is helping out in the community.''
