Newcomer Brown scores as Patriots beat Dolphins 43-0

Antonio Brown caught a 20-yard touchdown pass in his debut for the New England Patriots, and they scored twice on interception returns in a two-minute fourth-quarter span Sunday to beat the Miami Dolphins, 43-0.

Brian Flores said as of right now Ryan Fitzpatrick remains their starting QB.

Ugly, ugly showing for Dolphins offense which challenged worst performance in franchise history before garbage time stats helped them avoid that. There's not a lot of hope going forward that the offense can turn it around but after three Ryan Fitzpatrick interceptions (including two pick-sixes), it's worth wondering if the team should make a change to Josh Rosen.

Dolphins down 13-0 to New England at half but playing a lot better than last week defensively. Brian Flores is having his team come out with a lot more fire this week if you can take a moral victory out of it. Antonio Brown has had early success — 4 catches for 56 yards and a TD, but Dolphins have got a couple of sacks on Tom Brady and held run game in check largely. Miami offense, however, has been stagnant just gaining 51 yards on five drives.

Dolphins inactives: Reshad Jones, Albert Wilson, Myles Gaskin, Trent Harris, Isaiah Prince, Chris Reed, Bryan Witzmann. Minkah Fitzpatrick is active and expected to have a big role in the game plan despite being on the trade market by his own request.

As much as the Dolphins would prefer to hold on to Minkah Fitzpatrick and not trade him, other teams in contact with them said Miami has asked for "a firm" first-round draft pick and "something else" in order to pry loose the 22-year-old defensive back, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported this past week that the Dolphins have granted permission to Fitzpatrick's agent, Joel Segal, to discuss a trade with other teams. At least five teams have expressed interest, sources tell ESPN, but other teams don't believe the Dolphins will be able to recoup a first-round pick and something else for Fitzpatrick, despite the fact that he is under contract through 2021 and has a fifth-year option, and that his highest remaining base salary is $2.27 million. Then again, other teams didn't think the Dolphins would land two first-round picks and a second-round pick for offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil -- and they did, in a blockbuster trade earlier this month with the Texans. The Dolphins also will need Fitzpatrick to play better than he did last Sunday, when he was lit up in Miami's 59-10 loss to the Ravens -- and other teams that have been tracking him noticed it. "His tape from last Sunday is not good," one general manager told ESPN about Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick, the 11th overall pick in the 2018 draft out of Alabama, is unhappy about playing multiple positions and has been for several weeks, sources told Mortensen. But Fitzpatrick declined to discuss the trade talks with reporters Friday, saying that he is focusing on his role in Miami's game Sunday against Tom Brady and the reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots.

Sources: Fins want 1st-rounder for DB Fitzpatrick

Teams in contact with the Dolphins tell ESPN that Miami has asked for a "firm" first-round draft pick and "something else" in any trade involving star defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Dolphins signed G/T Bryan Witzmann to fill the roster spot vacated by Julien Davenport going to IR. Witzmann started 20 games at guard over the last two seasons with Chiefs and Bears, respectively.

Miami DB Fitzpatrick focused on Pats, not trade

Minkah Fitzpatrick expects to be a big part of the Dolphins' defensive game plan against the Patriots and says he's focused on that, not on trying to get traded out of Miami.

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Dolphins WR Albert Wilson (calf/hip) and S Reshad Jones (ankle) ruled out for Sunday vs. New England Patriots. Dolphins RT Julien Davenport was also placed on IR with knee and leg injuries. Recent signing J'Marcus Webb will replace him.

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Brian Flores said he anticipates Minkah Fitzpatrick being a big part of their plan Sunday. He declines to comment whether Fitzpatrick will remain a Dolphin through the season, but he doesn't think situation where player doesn't want to be here & still stays is broken or unusual.

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Dolphins DB Minkah Fitzpatrick ran as a starting safety during open portion of Dolphins practice Friday, one day after we reported he was given permission to seek a trade.

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Now that Minkah Fitzpatrick has asked and received permission to seek a trade, it will be interesting to see how Dolphins move forward. They like his versatility, he's a young, talented first-round pick from a year ago and he appeared to be one of the Dolphins long-term core pieces. Dolphins will want a significant return for him, but if they don't get that will they tell him to be a pro and keep an unhappy player or is a trade inevitable at this point?

Golic: Dolphins' Fitzpatrick used to winning  (1:13)

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Minkah Fitzpatrick is coming off his worst NFL game. He believes that's partly because of position uncertainty. He played 3-4 positions Sunday, and was told his role would change weekly. He's been unhappy with his role on defense for months and he's become increasingly frustrated as season got closer. Trade not a guarantee right now but permission given. Dolphins want a significant return to trade him.
